The English Major consists of 45 credits that include an Introduction to Literary Studies and three two-semester survey courses, two of which also fulfill University core requirements. In addition, students take 15 credits of advanced electives in delineated areas, 6 credits of open electives, and the Senior Seminar, a 3-credit course that caps their major program. English Department advisers are always available to help majors with registration and academic, personal, or career decisions throughout their college years.

The English Minor enhances reading and writing skills, adding greater literacy and effectiveness to any major students take at college or career path they chose after graduation. The minor consists of 18 credits distributed among surveys, writing courses, and advanced electives.

The English Department also offers an 18-credit Writing Minor which students can tailor to their own interests, emphasizing creative writing, expository writing, business and technical writing, or a combination of styles.

The Department of English features a 30-credit Master’s Program in English as well as an exciting Dual-Degree B.A./M.A. option that enables qualified English majors to achieve a Master’s Degree in one year beyond their B.A. For more information about these programs, click on the links provided.
