Parking Alert: Faculty/Staff Decals - 04/26/01

As you are aware, we will be issuing new summer parking hang tags prior to May 8, 2001. These will be valid for summer 2001 only. We will invalidate all current parking decals and hang tags effective May 8, 2001. Summer Parking Regulations will be stringently enforced through use of the Boot, and also we will continue to tow, so your cooperation will be appreciated. Should you have outstanding ticket and/or hang tag issues with Parking Services, you will not be issued a Summer Hang Tag until you have successfully satisfied these issues with the University.

The University will offer the following incentives to encourage car pooling as follows:

Faculty/Staff currently possessing a valid 2000-1 Hang tag:

Option 1: CAR POOLING

Agree to car pool to work. Your car pool group, which you will develop and identify, will be issued one tag that is to be used between the group's vehicles. Keep in mind the compressed workweek when you develop your group. Car pooling incentives are:

A) Two* people per vehicle: Each receives an $87.50 credit voucher toward your 2001-2 academic year tag

B) Three* people per vehicle: Each receives a $112.50 credit voucher toward your 2001-2 academic year tag

C) Four* people or more per vehicle: Each person receives a $137.50 credit voucher toward your 2001-2 year tag

*Number includes the driver. Credit Vouchers only. No checks or cash issued.

While the thought of car pooling with colleagues may seem challenging, it might be easier if you think in terms of who lives in your path to work as opposed to going out of your way to pick others up or to ride with someone. Whose house do you drive by everyday on the way? Whose house do you drive by before you get on the Parkway, or Rt. 78 or the Turnpike? Keep in mind that recent reports suggest gasoline prices will be going up sharply this summer. Car pooling has a very positive impact on the environment, too.

Option 2:

Use some other means to get to work (mass transit, scooter, bike, walk, drop off, etc.) and receive $87.50 credit on next year's tag. Voucher only. No checks or cash issued. Van shuttle service will be running between the South Orange train stations, campus, and the Ring Building 6:30 AM - 7:30 PM daily. We have ordered two new bicycle racks, which will be installed in addition to the one at the library. You will find NJTransit links at the end of this message.

Option 3:

Continue to drive your car to campus, receive a new summer 2001 parking tag, and receive no special credit incentive toward your fall tag.

Option 4:

If you currently do not have a parking decal or tag, and have to have one for the summer, they may be purchased at Parking Services for $35. You may still buy into one of the options above after you purchase a summer tag.

Handicapped Parking:

Persons with a state issued Handicap tag; placard or permanent handicap license plates may participate in Option 1 or 3 and still park in a designated Handicap Parking Place on campus. There are enough Handicap Spaces on campus to accommodate everyone has state handicap status. You must get a new tag too.

General

We are aware that personal needs and situations vary and may create some minor inconveniences during our summer parking initiative. We are offering these incentives to strongly encourage you to participate in car pooling. By so doing, we will be able to reduce the number of cars on campus - in return you save money and we will all benefit by the additional 525 parking spaces we will have available to all of us in September.

Attached please find a Summer Parking Decal Retagging form to open, print, complete, and sign. Please take the time to do it now so that you are ready for us to issue you a new tag for summer.
