The ImagOn film is exposed to the halftone
or art work before adhering it to the plate.
Adhere a "carrier" layer
of ImagOn film to the plate.
This layer can be independently
exposed to an image or aquatint screen. If the Wrinkled
Intaglio-Type image is ripped or distorted the open areas created by
this manipulation will allow images or tonality to be printed from the
"carrier" layer
A free standing piece of ImagOn film is
exposed to the art work or drawing.
After exposure this piece of film is then
crumpled, torn or distorted and laid directly on top of the
"carrier" layer of ImagOn (make sure the to Mylar has been
removed).
It is important to remember which side
of the ImagOn film is exposed and which side is to be laminated to the
ImagOn coated plate.
The order in which these steps are carried
out are identical to the normal layering and exposure of ImagOn
film.
Unroll the film.
the Mylar layer is placed in direct contact
with the emulsion side of the halftone or art work.
Expose as usual in the exposure unit.
Take the ImagOn to the etching press where
the plate with "carrier" film on top waits.
The next step is crucial to the success
of the Wrinkled Intaglio-Type. Before laminating the "image"
layer
remove both the peel back and Mylar
surfaces of the ImagOn film. You MUST remember which side was the peel
back layer since it is this side that must be adhered to the
"carrier" layer.
After both the peel-back layer and the
Mylar layers have been removed from the "image" layer it ican
be crumpled, torn or distorted.
This will reflect in the final printed
image.
Exposed ImagOn has a visible ghost of
the image on the film which helps you control your manipulation.
Once the peel back and Mylar layers are
removed from the "image" layer of ImagOn youshould work
quickly toward the lamination step
Spray the ImagOn coated plate with
the alcohol and water solution.
Position the peel-back layer side of the
image layer of ImagOn on top of the "carrier" layer.
Place a piece of Mylar on top of the plate
to prevent the ImagOn film from sticking to the blankets.
Roll plate through press
If the wrong side of the ImagOn film is
laminated to the plate, there will be a loss of detail in the finished
print.
If some areas of the crumpled ImagOn did
not stick then submerge the plate into an alcohol and water bath for a
few seconds. And then after blotting off the excess moisture re-run it
through the press.
Develop.
Dry
Light harden.
